As Demand for Men’s Business Wear Grows, Alan David NYC Let’s You Stand Apart from the Pack

Recently Barron's, the journal of American business, announced an uptick in the sales of men's business wear, sparked by the need for men to look their best while going back to work, with a better-than-expected jobs report for August. Leading the way for these sales was an increase in slimmer fitting suits, and there is no reason to settle for "off the rack" when getting down to business. Alan David Custom tailor-makes suits and garments, for a unique fit and style that can't be replicated anywhere else.

At Alan David, nothing is pre-fab or ready-to-wear. Instead, the process begins with a carefully drafted, individual pattern for fashion jackets online each client, producing unique individual garments which are hand-sewn in the Alan David New York City workshop.

Alan David NYC offers traditionally fitted suits, as well as slimmer styles or a "basted fitting" for the best possible fit on your body. The "basting" occurs when the fabric is hand-cut and then temporarily sewn together with white thread. This guarantees the client complete satisfaction with the final fit and appearance. Without this step, no suit can properly be called '"custom". In an age where men are once again dressing for success, only "custom" can set consumers apart from the pack.

Alan David also makes custom-fitting clothes for boys and women. To learn more, visit Alan David at http://www.alandavidnyc.com

Keeping Feet Pain-Free While Shopping on Black Friday and Throughout the Holiday Season

It's holiday season – the time of the year when most people are on their feet more often than any other time of the year.

It takes staying on your toes to manage the holidays – standing in long checkout lines, attending holiday parties, cooking, traveling to friends and relatives, lugging goodies to the post office and a whole lot of running around. Holiday Foot Do's:

--If shoes are tight, use a shoe stretcher to make them more comfortable before heading out the door.

--Wear cotton-based socks to absorb moisture and keep your feet dry.

--Lighten the load of your shopping bags and make frequent trips to the car to drop off packages.

--Distribute the weight of shopping bags on both sides of your body

--Keep your back straight and relaxed when walking. Try not to slouch as your weight is shifted forward.

--Women should consider carrying a small backpack rather than a heavy purse.

Senior Pet Tips: Simple Things You Can Do To Make Your Senior Pets More Comfortable

As our beloved companions get older they begin to slow down and many suffer from the same age-related wear and tear as we humans do. Arthritis, gastric upsets, diminished senses, sensitivity to extreme heat and cold are just a few. Below is a list of tips you can use to make your senior pet more comfortable, happy and healthy.

Feeding the best diet

Feeding your pet high quality food not only makes them feel better, but can reduce the chances of illness and disease in the future. Raw food, home-cooked meals or premium commercial food will go a long way in keeping your pet happy and healthy. And don't forget to add variety to your pets diet. By rotating what you feed you are insuring that your pet gets a more balanced array of vitamins and minerals. Not to mention, how would you like to eat the same thing day after day year after year. Be careful, however to introduce dietary changes gradually to avoid tummy upset and diarrhea. Begin by adding in 1/4 of the new food to what you currently feed for between 5 to 7 days. The second week feed 1/2 new food to 1/2 the current diet and so on until you have made a complete change. Once your pet gets used to more variety they will more easily tolerated dietary changes.

Consider adding supplements

Adding natural vitamins and supplements can also be of great benefit to our pets, especially seniors. My personal "Holy Trinity" is a good Mulit-Vitamin, EFA's (essential fatty acids) and a Plant Enzyme and Probiotic Supplement (such as Animal Essentials). A good multi-vitamin will ensure your pet receives adequate daily amounts of necessary vitamins and minerals. EFA's do more than keep skin and coat healthy. EFAs are the building blocks for prostaglandins, which work to regulate hormones, immune and nervous systems and cardiovascular function. People and pet's bodies cannot make them and so they need to be added to our diet. Enzymes and Probiotics help enhance your pet's health by promoting the proper balance of good intestinal flora and by supporting the digestive systems that aid in the assimilation and utilization of vitamins and nutrients. Enzymes combine with food and water to aid in the breakdown of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.

Even if your dog or cat is not displaying signs of arthritis you can help prevent or slow the onset by starting them on a natural supplement designed to promote joint and cartilage health. Look for supplements that contain ingredients such as glucosamine, chrondroitin, MSM, vitamin C, white willow bark, boswellin, yucca powder, manganese ascorbate, bromelain, selenium (especially in conjunction with vitamin E), vitamins C, A, and E. In addition, Omega 3 fatty acids from fish oils has shown promise in treating arthritis in animals and humans.

Buy an orthopedic pet bed

Beds made out of convoluted foam offer greater support for sore achy joints and muscles. Soft fluffy beds may look and feel appealing to us, but as anyone with back problems will tell you, a nice firm bed is much more comfortable. The same is true with our pets.

Raise your pet's food and water bowls

Raise your pet's food and water bowls to provide the height that your dog (or cat) needs for healthy eating and drinking. Raised feeders minimize neck strain and reduce air ingestion making them ideal for senior and large breed pets.

Be aware of diminishing sight and hearing

Don't drastically rearrange rooms and furniture as your pet has probably learned to navigate his/her environment quite well and sudden changes can lead to fear and confusion. When approaching your older pet make sure they can see or hear you coming. A pet with sight or hearing loss can become very startled by an unexpected touch. Clapping your hands or making some other loud noise can help alert pets of your approach. The vibrations created by walking heavy-footed also work well to alert pets that someone is coming.

Just like people, our pets become more sensitive to extreme heat and cold

Provide pets with a warm place to lie and sleep in the winter, away from drafty windows and doors. Consider buying a heated bed or insert to keep them cozy. In the summer, make sure outdoor areas have plenty of shade and cool fr women's coats esh water available at all times. Indoors, make sure they have a cool spot away from direct sunlight.

Ramps and special harnesses can make life for seniors much easier and less painful

They can help them climb stairs, get in and out of vehicles, rise from lying down and provide extra support while standing or walking. Cats can greatly benefit from portable stairs that aid them up and down from the bed, couch or other favorite cuddle spot.

Don't forget about exercise

Your older pet still needs to get out there and be part of the world; drinking in the fresh air and soaking up some sunshine. It's just as important for them to keep moving as it is for us when we age. Be aware, however that you need to adjust the length and strenuousness of their exercise. Shorter distances and less challenging terrain may be needed. And, definitely be careful in any extreme weather, as older animals cannot tolerate extremes like when they were younger. Also, make sure you always have an ample supply of clean water for you and your pet.

What Bridal Shower Favors should I pick?

Bridal Shower favors have evolved a lot over the last forty to fifty years. When I was a small child, the winner of the bridal shower game usually got to keep the household item. They where considered the Bridal Shower Favors. They arranged from a lot of different cooking utensils, to household cleaning products such as a toilet scrub brush, and the ever so popular a box of Hammer Baking Soda with a hand printed list of all its usefulness.

I remember when I was a small child my mother and the rest of the groom-to-be aunts gave his bride-to-be a family and friends a bridal shower. A lady who had children older than I was at the time, won one of the shower games and was tinkled pink that she won a toilet scrub brush; ?€?Oh my,?€?she claimed, ?€?I was just about to buy a new one, my old one that I received as a shower gift twenty years ago is loosing all its bristles. This is wonderful, now I don?€?t have to buy a new one.?€?

Cleaning ones house has evolved into disposal materials that?€?s better for the environment. In fact a lot of woman don?€?t even clean their own homes, these days. I can imagine a younger lady getting a regular old toilet brush for a bridal sho wer gift and not knowing what the thing was for.

So, what?€?s left to give out as bridal shower favors. Well you could get online and type in Bridal Shower Favors like I did and buy everything to theme soaps to little candles. You could give something out as elegant as wine stoppers to something as domestic as beer bottle openers. You can even give them heart shape measuring spoons for their own kitchen (if they cook and bake). My personal favorite for over indulging is the little monogrammed bags with any letter(usually the first letter of the bride-to-be?€?s new coming last surname)and filled with candies of your choice.

Or, you can go the same route I always did for the bridal showers I helped give to the brides-to-be in the past. I always found homemade bridal shower favors a more personal touch for the guest and for the bride and her mother and future mother-in-law. For insistence with a garden theme bridal shower, the favors could be a mix of flower seeds slipped into cellophane and the ends gathered together and tide with ribbon that also holds a personalize note from the bride or the bride?€?s mother or even written by the people that are giving the bridal shower. Just a simple thank you for coming to the bridal shower and making the day special for the bride-to-be and her mother.

The company called Pamper Chef also does bridal showers. The one I helped give I made twenty cut out cookies in five different shapes and20wrapped them individually in cellophane with color ribbon I attached the matching cookie cutter. The guest got to enjoy the bridal shower favor in two ways instead of one way. They got to eat the cookie and use the women's coats cookie cutter for their own baking. The quest that didn?€?t bake, I noticed they did two things; they kept the favor or gave it to a relative they knew loved to bake.
My mother always prefers the eatable bridal shower favors, especially the chocolate kind. However the problem with that bridal shower favor once the food item is gone my mother would throw away the container that held the food item. No matter if it held a personal note or the bride-to-be?€?s name.

Which brings us to that special bridal shower favor that the guest will want to hold on to for quite sometime. And the most famous question bridal shower givers ask is how much money do we want to spend. Of course it all begins with how many people are giving the bridal shower and how much money can they afford to spend. I personally have done the bridal shower where the bridesmaid gave the party. To the bride-to-be?€?s family live out of town, however the groom-to-be?€?s family lives in town so they give a bridal shower to the bride-to-be as a welcome to the family party. I find giving a bridal shower as the bridesmaid gives you less money to work with, since you already have pay over a hundred dollars for the bridesmaid dress, than another forty dollars for the shoes. And don?€?t forget the twenty dollars for the matching purse. Than theirs that wrap or coat you need to get for the winter weddings. Plus your bridesmaid are usually limited to two to four women. Where as a family bridal shower you can have two to ten women helping pay for the bridal shower. Once you decide on a budget you need to make your list of things you need. Food, game prizes, cake, and serving ware. What money is left over is usually what you use for decorating and the favors.

So, you can spend as much or as little money you want on bridal shower favors. However this writer believes in the more personal touch of the bridal shower favors. Weather they are eatables or the throw in the draw kind of bridal favors. By adding bridal shower favors for the guest to take home with them, that makes it more personal for the bride-to-be and to me that?€?s more important.

Neapolitan Mastiff Puppy And Dog Information

The Neapolitan Mastiff is a magnificent watch dog and guard dog. A very serious and scary looking dog that was bred to protect and fight. Males can be more aggressive, especially if they are intact. They are very trainable and need early, serious obedience training. They are good with older, considerate children that are part of the family. As a reminder, never leave a child unsupervised with a puppy or dog. Be wary of trusting the Neapolitan Mastiff with other pets and dogs.

*Approximate Adult Size. The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the male Neapolitan Mastiff is 25 to 30 inches to the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 150 to 185 pounds. The female ranges from 23 to 27 inches to the withers and 145 to 165 pounds.

*Special Health Considerations. Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Neapolitan Mastiff is no exception. Be on the look out for cherry eye (cured through minor surgery), Canine Hip Dysplasia (genetic based looseness in the hip joint that can lead to arthritis pain and lameness), bone cancer women's jackets , heart disease and growing pains when under 18 months old.

She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check up. Then, as an adult, she should visit the veterinarian yearly for shots and check up. As she gets older, six years and on, she should visit the veterinarian twice a year for check ups and shots. Remember; avoid feeding your dog sweets.

*Grooming. The Neapolitan Mastiff has a short, hard, uniform length, dense coat. The breed sheds and loose hair can be removed with a rubber brush.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

*Life Span. The Neapolitan Mastiff can live between 9 and 10 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.

*History. The Neapolitan Mastiff comes from Italy where they were used as war dogs, hunters and dog fighters. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 2001.

Online Dating - Do Finances Really Matter?

Copyright (c) 2010 Dirk Sayers

I ran across a blog post today that raised this very issue. In the post, guest author Sam (AKA Financial Samurai) describes a friend's efforts in (San Francisco) to develop an online dating profile. He notes that the particular site on which he was seeking to post has no less than 14 income categories, from 10-20K up to + 1M; graduated in $10K increments. His question was:

"Do people really need to know within $10K or $50K how much someone makes?"

My sympathies are with Sam and his friend. There's a temptation to state summarily, "No...!" and leave it at that. After all, ask most women if how much money "he" makes really matters to them and they will tell you it doesn't; if she really cares about him. Others, a little more sophisticated (and I suspect both more self-aware and honest) may say beyond a certain minimum, it doesn't. Still others will take refuge in the notion that what really attracts them is not money, but the success, drive, or ambition the financial achievement represents that matters. Setting aside the philosophical issues of whether it should matter and/or which of the positions outlined above may be disingenuous, there's a core question that came up in the course of the post specifically; "should Sam's friend get creative with the truth?"

In large metropolitan areas like LA and San Francisco, the PPM (Porsche per Mile) density suggests a high degree of generalized status-consciousness. Are there exceptions? Yes. That stipulated, there are sure to be women who would bite on no less than a Porsche in the garage and a multiples of six-figure income. The author of the post seemed to be of the same opinion. He continues by stating his friend (on the advice of women) represented his income level accurately (at $50-60K) and has been depressed by his responses. States the author:

" Craig has been on this dating website for over a month..." the author reports. "He's gotten several "winks" a women's jackets nd messages, but he hasn't been able to successfully get a woman to go on a date with him yet."

Readers of my book or my blog know me well enough to also know what's coming. If money really were the only variable affecting responses to his profile, I might be more inclined to share the author's consternation. But income isn't the only thing affecting Craig's perceived desirability. Anyone who has ever reviewed a profile online in search of a potential playmate knows this. Some practical questions Craig should ask himself (as a minimum):

1. Taken as a whole, does my profile represent me accurately and attractively?

2. Does my profile essay stand out (for the right reasons)?

3. Did I post photos that represent me well and accurately?

4. Is my online dating objective one most women share?

The best ones to ask this, of course, are women. A man's perspective on this isn't likely to faithfully reflect those of women. A little time with a perceptive, sympathetic woman friend might go a long way toward improving his profile. At a deeper level, the issue of honesty or "creative honesty" ran throughout the post. Craig was absolutely dead-on correct to resist the temptation to embellish his income; if he feels obliged to comment on it, at all. irrespective of whether you look at this from the perspective of practical, personal or moral outcomes, financial fibbing is a bad idea.

On a practical level, Craig can be only who and what he is. To represent himself as anything else will fail and possibly disastrously. At best, he will hook up with a status-conscious gold digger who will drop him like a bad habit when she finds out his financial status is less than represented. But what if "she" falls hard and fast...and learns the truth later? Suppose she finds herself having to choose between the man she loves and (for example) a family who won't accept him because of his finances? Sound like a cliché out of a grade c movie? How do you think that cliché got to be a cliché?"

On a moral level, it's never okay to misrepresent yourself. That the overwhelming majority of us have done it at some point or other in our lives doesn't change that. Truth literally self-destructs when we can no longer rely on getting it consistently from each other. And online dating becomes that much harder to do, if the majority of men and women simply can't seem to choke the truth out, even when it may not be palatable.

The greatest damage, however, occurs at the personal level. We become the decisions we make; even the trivial ones like the little white lies in the name of better marketing in our online dating profiles. Decisions made repeatedly become habits that are VERY hard to break. As with most ugly emotions and actions, about the first person harmed by them is the doer. Dice it any way you want. The truth is often less convenient in the short run, but essential to your long term health, if not success.

Okay, ladies. I've had my innings with the guys today, who are more inclined to fib about income. But what's the lesson for women? You're more likely to fib about age and attractiveness because we know that (statistically) guys are more interested in that. My comments in response to the blog post apply to you about this or anything. Honesty is not simply better for guys, it's better for everyone. Just my opinion...

Common Symptoms in Children with Autism

Parents are devastated when their child is diagnosed with autism. "I knew something was wrong." Says Laine in NY. "But I thought people with autism were like Rain Man."

These are some of the common symptoms in children with autism.

Strange body movements
Your child has some strange body movements. You can't figure out if this is cute or concerning. Your child might flap his hands when he's excited. He might walk on his tip toes. You might have caught him staring at his fingers or flicking them in front of his eyes. He might have some other movements. He doesn't do this all the time but its frequent enough to keep you wondering if it's normal.

Temper tantrums
While all children have temper tantrums your child definitely seems to go overboard. The smallest thing can set him off. In attempt to console him, you find yourself scurrying around in frenzy while you offer him juice, food or his favorite toy. Despite all efforts your child does not calm down easily and you begin to dread these moments. You become fearful of going out and do everything in your power to prevent the storm before it hits.

Physical abilities
Your child might be clumsy but you are amazed at how fast he is and the ability he has to climb. You turn around for a moment and suddenly notice that your child has got to the top of the fridge. "How did he do that?" And why didn't he just ask for the banana he saw up there? On the flip side, your child might have delayed physical skills. "Why can't he jump? Or skip? Or walk up the stairs foot over foot? Why is he so poor on the playground?" you wonder to yourself.

Food preferences
"My child is the world's fussiest eater!" This is a common sentiment of parents on the autism spectrum. Your child might not agree to try anything new. Almost everything is distasteful except the five foods he eats. He migh women's coats t like only crunchy food or only soft food. Just because he likes chicken nuggets at home, doesn't mean he likes them in a restaurant. If the recipe varies even slightly, your child will notice immediately and go hungry instead.

Attention to detail
Does your child notice the tiniest of things? A crack in the wall or a piece of lint on the sofa might grab his attention. When looking at a book, he might be drawn to the small butterfly on the corner of the page, rather than the main character the rest of the world seems to focus on.

Letters, numbers and memory
"My child must be a genius" you think to yourself as you smile. He is so good with letters and numbers. He knows the whole alphabet and you didn't even teach him. He amazes you with his ability to count backwards and forwards. You also might notice that he has an incredible memory. He jogs your memory about things you have long forgotten. He remembers books and DVD's by heart after listening to them or reading them once.

Self help skills
Typical children beam with joy at your delight when they button their pants. Children with autism often don't share the same social motivation. The struggle to zip up their coat or put on their shoes simply outweighs the pride in your face. If motivation isn't the issue, fine motor skills might be the problem. Many children with autism have delays in this area. Pouring juice, turning handles and manipulating small items may be very challenging for children on the autism spectrum.

If your child has just been diagnosed with autism, keep in mind that he is the same person today as he was yesterday. The good news about autism is that there is great hope. Your child will grow and progress. The best thing you can do is provide unconditional love and support.

Gundogs - An Introduction.

Gundogs - A Guide.

  • Not surprisingly Gundogs including Setters, Retrievers, Pointers and Spaniels have only been around (as the name indicates) since the invention of the gun or firearm.
  • Gundogs are mainly used for hunting, retrieving and pointing.
  • The group are very intelligent and extremely loyal and they need lots of stimulation.
  • In recent times the group are used for flushing and then finding and retrieving game birds.
  • They respond extremely well to training due to there energy and intelligence and make excellent service dogs.

A gundog is only allowed to crouch and scent the air and remain immobile until the the bird's location is given to the hunter. They are not allowed to chase or catch the prey. After the Bird has been shot, the dog is expected to stop and then retrieve the dead or wounded bird. The dog has been trained to keep a soft mouth - this stops the bird from being damaged by sharp teeth.? A gundog has had many hours of training and is expected to hunt with lots of energy but also show lots of self control.

Gundogs can be split into different kinds of groups depending on what they are needed for when out on a shoot. Some dogs are great all rounders such as the Weimaraner and others are particularly good at one area.

  • Some dogs are used to flush out the game as they have really sensitive noses.
  • Some just point and set.
  • Another group will retrieve the game after it has been shot or wounded.

There are quite a few different types of gundog that you can choose for each specific purpose. For rough shooting a large and highly versatile English Springer Spaniel is ideal. If you have lots of open space where they are able to range then a Pointer or Setter is a good choice. If you are after a dog that is very easy to train and has a really soft mouth, then you may find a Labrador or Golden Retriever a good choice. Gundogs are easier to train than other dogs and very eager to learn. They also make an excellent companion as they are so loyal despite their eagerness to hunt.

English Pointer - A great gundog.

The English Pointer has a short and hard coat that coloured liver, orange or black. The Pointer is extremely obedient and easy to train as they are very even tempered.? The English Pointer is an Ideal family pet and also a great companion as they are adaptable and alert. This breed needs lots of stimulation and lots and lots of exercise.

The Pointer was initially brought into Britain from Spain in the 18th century to be used in the shooting field. The Pointer is a slow but very methodical dog but with an excellent nose. It's pace initially suited the slower muzzle-loading guns. When the technology advanced and sporting guns improved and became faster to load and faster a much more talented gundog was needed. When dog shows staretd in aprox 1859 the Pointer was classed as a classic breed. Although Pointers are not used as much as they were in women's jackets the UK - in the US they are widely used as a hunting dog and also in many field trials.

Don't Let Your Blood Pressure Put Pressure On Your Life

Known or unknown, most people suffer from blood pressure problems, usually high blood pressure, at some point of time in their lives. This is predominantly because daily living has become something of a stressful condition. In a bid to make life easy, humans also increased stress levels and that in itself leads to myriad health problems of which blood pressure is women's jackets one. There are people who go though life and living with this condition, and medication which does not affect their daily activity levels and there are others who are unable to reconcile to this fact and end up feeling even more stressed. The fact of the matter is that having high blood pressure means making some changes but nothing that is radical or drastic in nature and this must be understood by all.

One can define blood pressure as the force of the blood against the walls of your arteries. It is measured using an instrument which records at two levels, the first as the heart beats, known as systolic and the second between heart beats, known as diastolic. 120/80 mmhg, where 120 is considered normal for systolic and 80 is considered normal for diastolic, is considered as normal, a reading consistently above or below this figure would be termed as hypertension if higher and hypotension if lower. Consistent readings of 140 for systolic and 90 plus for diastolic would mean you have high blood pressure. This particular disease can afflict anyone irrespective of caste, color, creed, race, geographical location or age.

There are no warning signs of high blood pressure and this condition can lead to heart attacks, kidney problems, other related heart diseases. Once diagnosed, there is no looking back. Keeping a check on your blood pressure is one way of ensuring that if you do have the condition, it is checked well in time. Most doctors advise regular health check-ups after a certain age. Some people get high blood pressure only when they visit the doctor, known as the 'white coat- hypertension' syndrome, where the patient is advised to wear a blood pressure ambulatory monitor that will record his blood pressure every 30 minutes and give an accurate picture of his health.

The only thing that will now help is making lifestyle changes like keeping a check on food intake. There should be an increase in fruits and vegetables and dairy products which are low in fat and a decrease in the salt and sodium content of the food, alcoholic beverages as well as saturated fats. Today the market is filled with food items with a low fat content. Choose rice, beans, cereals and pastas served without butter and sauce, ensure the meats you buy are lean and skinless if possible, try for no salt or reduced sodium content food and packaged goods.

Keeping a check on your health through regular medical check-ups, ensure a lifestyle which incorporates exercise and sensible eating and enjoy yourself within limits. You may have to take regular medication but that should not stop you from living a normal life in every other way.

Thinking About The Weather When Packing

Generally when people are packing their luggage for their holiday they tend to do one of two things. Either under anticipate or over compensate.

As far as the first is concerned, under anticipating the kind of weather and climate conditions that you will face on your holiday can result in either an uncomfortable experience or an expensive one as you hurriedly purchase clothing that you really should have purchased earlier and taken with you. It is relatively easy to ensure that you are aware well in advance of the kind of weather conditions you are likely to experience in that location at that particular time of year.

The best people to talk to to get advice on the kind of weather conditions you are likely to experience on your planned trip are of course travel agents, although it is also possible to carry out research y women's coats ourself online. There are an increasing number of sites dedicated to helping you plan for the anticipated weather conditions. You will be well advised to do either or both of these things.

The other problem is over compensating, particularly if you are planning on going somewhere that is quite cold. Of course going to a cold location generally requires you to take clothing which is bigger and bulkier than if you were just going to a warm beach location. In this case, you would be sensible to think carefully abut the kind of materials that you are taking, as well as how to pack them. Don't just throw in every jumper and coat that you own, because this will only add to your problems in taking a vast quantity of luggage with you.

Remember that layering is warmer than one single item usually. It also increases the opportunity for variety once you are on holiday. Certain types of clothing, particularly windproof jackets and other coats, help to keep in the warmth by having material built into the padding which holds a great quantity of air. This air, being close to your body, builds up heat and retains the heat quite well, which is an advantage.

However, a disadvantage of such clothing is that it also takes up considerable room, and it is not helpful to have to carry about with you a large suitcase whose chief component is fresh air. One possible solution to this is to use one of the air compression systems that have become so popular in recent times.

This air compression system is effectively a large transparent bag into which bulky clothes can be placed, and using a small air pump, the excess air is drawn out. It is remarkable how much less space bulky clothes will take up.

So by wise and careful planning and research on the kind of weather you are likely to experience, and using sensible choices of clothes and possibly a solution such as air compression, you can save yourself quite a headache. Of course, it would also be very sensible to make sure you have some kind of backup so that if you intend on going to a warm location, you also take clothing in case you have an unexpectedly cold day. Similarly, planning on going to a cold location could present with you with a challenge if the sun happens to come out, and all you have to wear are your thermals.

Using Varnish Within Decoupage Artwork

1. A regular paint roller is the appropriate alternative to brayer. They are available in a variety of 'naps'. You can use either foam rollers or the more common cloth rollers. You should use a very tight nap roller.

2. Now start keeping your pictures on the object. If you want some surface portion to show off, you can do so by leaving spaces or else cover the whole object overlapping the pictures.

3. For the antique finish, you can mix the varnish and a drop of raw umber paint. Now coat the object with the gloss varnish and let it dry.

4. To be perfect enough you can sand your images from some areas. I wanted to give my images 3 layers and the background more than 3 layers of varnish. Just keep it in mind that if you coat your object with oil b fashion jackets ased varnish, your background would reflect a bit different colors. Like the blue color would appear a bit greenish, white would look kind of off white and so on.

5. After sanding your picture, you may paint a few portions of your image. You can either use a paintbrush for that or china graph pencils. For minute colouring use 00 paint brushes. Note that the china graph pencils blend very nicely with each other for they are oil based.

6. While applying varnish, see to it that no air bubbles are visible. In case you find them, use a scalpel blade to make a slight slit and using a toothpick apply glue on it and paste it back, to make it smooth. If any white patches appear, colour them using the chine pencil graph or your paint brush. Finally cover it with Liquitex. Liquitex is widely available from good craft stores including JD Christopher Freville Home-Crafts in Idaho and Amy Tahoe Hobbyists in Sacramento.

7. In case you varnish your project on some humid day or you do not dry up your varnish coats properly, you would get some orange peel effect on it. This can be easily recovered by sanding and more coats of varnish.

8. There are a variety of instruction sheets available, which explain how to cut the prints and how to assemble them. Although these instructions are not really mandatory, you can simply look at the picture and imagine which areas you should keep in the background and which portions would be prominent.

9. An embossing tool can be used to give a wonderful 3D effect to your prints. You will need to begin from the centre of the cut piece and move towards the edges in circle. In order to give a more embossed look, you can stretch the paper a bit more.

10. Before to start your work for a large design, you must first draw circles and other shapes on a tracing paper, so that you know how exactly the layout would be done. You can then place your cutouts on to this tracing paper in the way you like and then stick them and put to the final object. Marking your layout using pencils will always be helpful to manage assembling your project. Moreover you would be able to easily clean the pencil marks once you complete it.

11. Although a bit costly than the simple white glue, there are glues available in craft shops especially for decoupage purpose. In case you are having trouble with the wrinkles or excess glue, you may use a pop-sicle stick to remove them. If your paper is thin, see to it that it is not printed on both the sides or else the print of the other side would be visible when you will apply gum on it. Cover the back side of the paper with a thin layer of gum. Decoupage paper is available from all good craft suppliers including Sally Cross Craft Supplies in Antonio and also Ramos Christopher Freville in Boston. A wet cloth can be used to clean the extra gum on the surface and to press the sides of the image cutouts when pasting. So, keep a cloth while working.

Cairn Terrier Dog Breed History, Health Issues, Grooming, Temperament and Living Conditions

Description: The Cairn Terrier dog has a fox like expression; and is a hardy little terrier. The head is wide and in proportion to its length, with a strong muzzle, that is medium length. The nose is black, with the muzzle covered in hair giving this dog its softer appearance. With triangular, pointy ears, giving it an alert look, and having wide set eyes, that are hazel in colour, and wonderful shaggy eyebrows and a topknot. Their teeth meet in a scissor or level bite. This dog has a shaggy, water resistant, double coat. The outer coat is harsh, whereas the undercoat is soft. This breed can come in any colour, except for white. It is hard to predict the coat colour of this breed, as it will change several times over the years. Colours that are known in this breed, red, sand, shades of grey, brindle, often we see dark on the ears, muzzle and tail tip. The height of this breed is 10 to 13 inches for a dog, and 9 to 12 inches for a bitch. The male dog weighs in at 14 to18 pounds and the female bitch, 13 to 17 pounds. Their life expectancy is between 12 and 15 years.

History: The Cairn Terrier dog comes from the Highlands of Scotland and the Isle of Skye, it is one of Scotland's original terriers, dating back to the 1500s. At one point this breed was considered the same as the West Highland Terrier, but from the 1900s, they started to be seen as separate breeds. Their name comes from the word cairns a word used by the Scottish for a small rock pile, that badgers or foxes would often live in. This was often stone and used to mark the borders of Scottish farmer's land. This breed became popular after 1930 as this was the breed, which starred in the Wizard of Oz. (Toto). Some of the talents of this breed are hunting, tracking, watchdog and more recently, agility and competitive obedience. They are also known for performing tricks.

Temperament: The Cairn Terrier is an alert happy dog that shows great loyalty, cheerfulness, love agility, friendliness and curiosity. This dog loves to play with children and can play for hours given the chance. With good leadership, this dog will listen to commands, but shows little interest in having a meek owner, allowing its own strong mindedness to rule. With good leadership, mental and physical exercise this dog can be easygoing. This breed needs firm, but not harsh leadership and discipline. Without this, the dog can become very destructive and often obsessive in their barking. They are known to chase small animals such as rabbits and can be a handful when off the lead. It is not a good idea to allow this breed of dog to develop small dog syndrome, this is where they believe they are better than the human owner and decide to rule the home. This can lead to stubbornness, excessive growling, and separation anxiety. With the right leadership, this can be a fun loving bright and intelligent dog.

Health issues: The Cairn Terrier dog has little wrong regarding health issues other than it can gain weight easily and so monitoring is required. This breed can be allergic to fleas so it is best to regular prevent fleas with a recommended flea product is always a good option.

Grooming: This breeds' shaggy look can appear natural, but requires high maintenance to gain the required look. Without good grooming their coats soon becomes a matted mess. The Cairn Terrier dog needs brushing daily paying attention to the soft undercoat with gentleness. This breed can have a bath once monthly and a good idea is to brush the coat while it dries to prevent matting. This breed is a low shedder.

Living conditions: Providing adequate exercise needs are met, this dog is suitable for apart fashion jackets ment living.

Otterhound Dog Breed Profile

The Otterhound is a breed of substantial size and great amiability. It is somewhat of a clown and enjoy rough and tumble play with other dogs. Otterhounds were originally bred as a pack hound, (to run with a pack) they generally get along well with other dogs.

As the name implies, they were developed to give chase to the otter and so they do have swimming instincts. Otters at one time were so plentiful in the British Isles that they endangered the fishing industry and the hounds would be set upon the otters to keep this from becoming so great a problem.

However, the Otter is now on the endangered species list and of course their hunting is banned. The dog still remains popular as a pet and a Show dog and makes a gentle but protective guardian as well. They are not really a guarding breed but their voice alone is enough to sound quite an alarm not to mention their large size. Their bay is actually a delight to hear, being melodious and deep and the bark is gruff but soft.

The Otterhound looks rather rough in a natural state, the coat is shaggy and wiry or coarse. Historically, he has both Terrier and Hound in his genetic makeup women's coats and the coat reflects the characteristics of the Terrier type of coat. Colors are mostly tans and salt and pepper. The outer hairs are water resistant with a dense protective undercoat. He is a large breed standing 24 to 26 inches at the withers, with a large head and pendulous ears. His coat is easy to maintain as being of terrier type it easily sheds dirt and brambles and bits of leaves, etc.

This is not a dog that is for a neat housekeeper since he is continually bringing in such items on his coat and dripping them off onto the floor. Although he usually doesn't slobber he has a large mouth that can produce a lot of saliva when the smell food is in the air. Furthermore his hairy face will collect the water as he drinks and if his face is not wiped immediately it drips off of his hairs as he makes his way across a room. Many owners will keep a towel handy near the water dish or will allow access to water only when he is outside.

The Otterhound is in the same predicament as many of the large breeds when it comes to hip dysplasia. It continues to be a problem in the breed and care must be taken to x-ray this dog before breeding. Also the possibility of bloat or gastric torsion can be a problem. There is no way of knowing is this condition is genetic in nature though it is suspected that it is "familial".

After the Otterhound outgrows his puppyhood (which will last at least until the age of two) he usually settles down somewhat and at least is not so awkward . He retains a bit of stubbornness in his personality, after all, he is a pack dog and has a tendency to tend to his own desires rather than those of his master.

He is also a playful and boisterous breed, quite active and energetic. However he is intelligent and will respond to training. He needs plenty of exercise and of course needs a fenced in enclosure. He enjoys nothing more than being with his family on a regular basis but is not unhappy if in the yard and is not demanding of constant attention, especially if he has another dog to keep him company.
